run/hack 1.0 - major overhaul


The largest update by far, major changes have been made with these goals in mind:

  1. Shorten both turn and overall game length significantly
  2. Focus the game on the fun parts and remove as many "microrules" as possible.
  3. Rebalance the endgame so that the amount of ice on servers grows in proportion to the number of dice players collect.

run/hack 1.0 changes

  • No more security guards
    • The EVADE action has been replaced by the DE-REZ action, which allows you to remove ice.
  • You may no longer do *anything* partway through a RUN action.
    • Finish both moves in your RUN action, then do your business.
  • Free move every turn
    • Take one free move at any point during your turn.
  • The RESET phase has been moved to the end of the turn sequence.
    • This helps tremendously with game flow; the next player can start their turn as soon as you start your reset.
  • Only 3 locations per player instead of 4
    • This will help you increase your ice density; you're less spread out.
    • Player locations no longer have names or special rules.
    • There are more white locations now, and each one has a cool new ability.
  • New ICE rules
    • Ice is now represented by a single, coloured d6 on each location.
    • Ice can go from 1-6.
    • Each time you successfully hack a location, the ice there is automatically increased by 1.
    • When you perform an ICE action, you may add a second ice for 2 credits.
  • Role cards
    • Now only have 1 ongoing ability and 1 one-time ability.
    • Slide the role card under the notch in the player board after setup, and slide it down again when you've used your one-time ability.
  • Many changes to the program and mission cards
  • The PLACE action can no longer be followed
  • Re-roll tokens
    • Discard a re-roll token to re-roll a single die.
    • Each player starts with 1 re-roll token.
    • May be purchased at certain locations.
  • Game end is triggered at 15 VP instead of 20
